FILENE EXPANDS i3 GROUP WITH 28 NEXT GENERATION LEADERS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CONTACT: Mark Meyer — 608-231-8554

Filene MADISON,
WI:
The Filene Research Institute and the Center for Credit Union
Innovation have chosen 28 additional rising credit union executives to
replace the 25 inaugural members of a progressive group who have fulfilled
their three-year term and have been dedicated to stimulating the development
of new ideas and innovations for credit unions.

To qualify, members of i3 obtained commitment and support
from their credit union and its CEO. Each member will serve a three-year
term and participate in semi-annual national meetings arranged by Filene.
The next meeting will be held September 20-22 in Vancouver, B.C., Canada.

“The Filene Research Institute is determined to tap the creative skills
and energies of these leaders to benefit the industry,” says Mark Meyer,
Director of Innovation, “This professional work group will draw upon the
talents from highly talented credit union professionals. They will identify
and evaluate potential and recent credit union innovations that meet member
needs. The i3 group will also develop strategies to lower costs
and increase credit union operational efficiencies, build member loyalty,
and meet the special needs of member segments.”

Initial outputs of the group are highlighted in the Filene i3 Key
Findings 2.0
, and further analyzed in Investigative Reports such
as “Gift Registry Accounts For Key Life Events: A Radical Leap for
Credit Unions?
” and “MoneyWorks: A Credit Union Party That’s
Fun!

Meyer explains that i3 will continue to develop ideas and
initiatives that address major issues facing credit unions; identify developments
in other financial institutions that can be adopted by credit unions; and
provide a forum for cooperation, collaboration, professional development
and industry succession planning. The development of i3 in 2004
was made possible through sponsorship in part by America’s Corporate Credit
Unions.

The application process was developed by Barrick Resources Unlimited
to identify qualified candidates. That process includes an application
with professional experience essay questions, an entrepreneurial assessment
that identifies innovation competencies developed by the Carnegie-Mellion
Institute and administered by Wonderlic, Inc. and reference behavioral
observations.

Recruiting efforts for the additional candidates generated hundreds of
inquiries and over 120 applications from qualified credit union executives
from around the country. The selection process evaluated innovative aptitude,
experience and other key factors including present position, leadership
abilities, motivation, geography and type of credit union.

With the addition of these new members, i3 now
has a team of 40 innovators:
